Makaton Training
JE Makaton Training will meet all of your Makaton training needs. It is our mission to make our training accessible to a wide range of audiences.
You can book on training as an individual or contact us to arrange a group booking. If there are no suitable dates/times for you please contact us as lots of our workshops are run on demand.

Become Makaton Friendly
Once you have completed some Makaton training you can work towards being recognised as 'Makaton Friendly.' This is a unique partnership programme which helps organisations and communities to improve accessibility for anyone living with learning or communication difficulties.
JE Makaton Training has a strong support structure for you and your business to be signed off as Makaton Friendly.
You will be provided with:
- Ongoing support from your personal Makaton Tutor
- Digital access to key signs, symbols and videos in the Makaton Library
- Downloadable Makaton signs and symbols for on-site use at your business
- Promotional logos and stickers for your website / social / advertising / windows
- Promotion on makaton.org via the interactive Makaton Friendly map
- Advice and support from peers and experts in the Makaton online community
- Ongoing inspiration and learning in webinars hosted by Makaton experts
We promote our Makaton Friendly partners through their website, newsletters, and local Tutor networks.
Makaton Taster Session
Our most popular training session.
The Makaton Taster Session Workshop is an informal 1.5 hours of interactivity and fun. It gives you an opportunity to find out more about Makaton and gets you started with some basic signs and symbols.
You will receive handouts for the signs and symbols you have covered in the Taster Session and a Certificate of Attendance. No previous knowledge or experience of Makaton is needed.
We have a list of planned taster sessions focussing on vocab surrounding:
- Nursery Settings
- Children’s Activities Providers
- Forest School
- Cafe/Restaurant
- Halloween
- Christmas
If you would like to select your own vocabulary topic/theme/group for the second part of your taster session then please get in touch about our bespoke Makaton Taster Sessions.

During every taster session you learn 20+ daily words/signs/symbols. We then pick some extra vocabulary that would specifically meet the needs of you and your setting.
Makaton Level 1

You will receive a participants training manual to support your learning. This includes presentation materials as well as all the signs and symbols for the vocabulary covered in the workshop. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance to use in your application for Makaton Friendly Status.
Makaton Level 1 is the official starting point when learning Makaton.
A practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme covering commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use, as well as how to start using Makaton in everyday situations. In the workshop, you will learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2 of the Core Vocabulary and part of the Additional Stage.

Little Talkers Baby & Toddler Signing Clubs
One of the joys of baby signing is that often your child is able to communicate to you with their hands before they are able to speak recognisable words. We all use gestures to communicate such as pointing, clapping or waving. Baby signing gives your child more skills to communicate with you directly.
By using hand-shapes and meaningful gestures, you can help your child form early and meaningful communication skills as their language develops.
Using baby signing allows you to create a bridge between communication stages and gives you a wonderful opportunity to share things, ease frustration, stop tantrums and have fun together.
